ProCook – Wok do you put in your stir-fry?

A stir fry is an ideal quick and easy recipe for midweek meals. They can be a great alternative to that Friday night takeaway due to the huge amount of diversity they  have within the recipe, chopping and changing any ingredients can be a great way to personalise any dish.

Some of the best and well known recipes are almost always served with stir fried rice or stir fried noodles, these easy-to-follow recipes will give you plenty of inspiration…

Chicken Stir Fry

Ingredients

2 large chicken breasts 
2 disks egg noodles 
1 large red pepper 
1 large yellow pepper 
4 large mushrooms 
1 pack bean sprouts 
1 large onion 
 sesame oil 
 soy sauce 
½ beef stock cube 
1 pak choi, roughly chopped

 

Preparation Method

1. Heat sesame oil in a large wok.

2. Chop up onion and start to fry then add chicken.

3. Fry until cooked and golden – don’t burn the onion! At this point put the noodles in a separate pan to cook with water and a little soy sauce.

4. Add pak choi, bean sprouts, mushrooms and peppers (cut up nice and chunky).

5. Make up stock with a tiny drop of water and add to pan with soy sauce.

6. Add the noodles and stir it all together.

 

Chilli Beef Stir Fry

Ingredients

2 medium lean beef steaks (Cut thinly) 
1 red pepper chopped 
1 yellow pepper chopped 
8 mushrooms chopped 
1 leek, sliced 
8 baby corn. sliced 
1 inch root ginger. grated 
2 cloves of garlic. crushed 
1 red chilli. deseeded and finely sliced 
3 tablespoons soy sauce 
stir fry oil or sesame oil  
1 tablespoon Chinese five-spice powder

Preparation Method

1.Put the thinly sliced beef in a bowl with the soy sauce, red chilli, garlic, 5 spice and ginger. Stir so beef is coated and then cover and leave to one side.

2.Heat up some oil in a wok (if required) and then add all the veg, put the mushrooms in last once the leeks have softened as they don’t need as long.

3.Once the veg is cooked remove from the wok, add a little more oil to the wok (if required) then cook your beef until browned on the outside. Then add the veg and heat everything through.

4.Add a little more soy sauce and then serve with rice.

Tips

Make sure your oil is really hot and keep stirring everything so it doesn’t burn.
